My legs are on fire in all the right places. Three hours of strength training yesterday began with a morning boot camp-type class I suffer through every Tuesday and Thursday. Then, after work I hit an interval spin/treadmill class with my coach at OptumHealth Performance and about 15 other triathletes for two hours. I think I wanted to quit fewer times than I did last Thursday, but my legs are especially sore today. It hurt to walk upstairs, and even to get out of bed this morning for several reasons, including the strength work on the bike and on the treadmill, but mostly because of some funky lunges we did yeasterday morning with the help of Bosu balls. Can I assume everyone knows what a Bosu lunge looks like? In case not, here ya go:
This model is lunging straight backward. Imagine if she were lunging to her left side increasing the angle to 30 degrees. Do that for two minutes on each leg, then repeat. I think it’s my Psoas muscles, my Sartorii or something else that hurts to pronounce that are just wrecking me. But I have a solution. Well, I have a few I guess:
A. Foam roller
B. Massage
C. Sleep
D. Compression tights
Compression Tights?
That’s right, just like the Miracle sock! Have you seen that commercial yet on TV? Hohoho, I love that stuff. Wishing I got some in my stocking. What the F Santa?
Holy crap, they’re a miracle! A Christmas Miracle! Seriously, though, these silly sounding solutions to sore muscles, swollen legs/ankles and pooling blood actually work. I’m fully compressed today. Not with Miracle Socks, but with Zoot compression knickers and socks. I went the athletic route because I got them on Pro Deal as a former REI employee, but Miracle Socks probably work just about the same.
Full on recovery day. Combine these with a foam roller, and you barely need a massage. Realistically, I’d be much better off with a massage, but even high end compression tights and socks will run you under $150. It’s a great alternative if you can’t break the bank for a massage every other week. You can walk around and do all your daily activities fully compressed and recovering. Hell yeah!
